Romans 1:18-32, The truth about you and me.
From the series: The Romans Road
Overview
The ominous words of Romans 1:18 – 3:20 serve as a much needed corrective to our tendency to underestimate and excuse our bad behavior. This bad behavior is named sin by the Scriptures. And it is a species-wide epidemic. We must not think of God as a jilted lover fretting about how to win mankind back. The biblical (realistic) understanding is to know God as the Supreme Creator, an all-powerful, absolutely righteous, holy Judge who is deeply offended by our obstinate, willful choice to pursue sin and reject right. With an insight never equaled on any counselor’s couch, the Spirit of God lays bare the motivation, behavior, and consequences that mark our world today. Yet the purpose of these hard words is the same as a doctor’s diagnosis – to confront with the truth of our condition so that healing can be offered. God, a jilted lover? No. He is a skilled surgeon who offers hard truth and a cure.
